Rain turned Sunday’s scheduled afternoon race into an evening event, but the AAA Texas 500 is well underway, with Chase driver Joey Logano leading at the halfway point (167 laps) of the scheduled 334-lap race.

The race was originally slated to start just after 2 p.m. ET, but steady rain – and then nearly two hours of track drying – caused it to be pushed back roughly five hours.

Engines fired at 7:13 p.m. ET. Cars circled around to help dry the track for about 30 minutes. The race got underway with a green/yellow flag at 7:56 p.m. ET. The green flag fell at 8:05 pm ET after six laps of green/yellow. A competition caution was called at Lap 29.

Logano, who started alongside pole-sitter Austin Dillon on the front row, has dominated the first half of the race, leading 157 laps.

Running second at halfway is Martin Truex Jr., followed by Chase drivers Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick, and Chase Elliott.

Other Chase drivers and their positions are: Matt Kenseth (7th), Jimmie Johnson (9th), Denny Hamlin (14th), Kurt Busch (17th) and Kyle Busch (18th).

Also, Chase Elliott has been beset by flu-like symptoms but continues behind the wheel of the No. 24 Chevrolet. If he needs to pull out of the race, Justin Allgaier is on standby in the pits.

As for cautions that resulted due to incidents:

* On Lap 109, Brian Scott hit the wall in a one-car incident, but lost only one lap while repairs were made.

* On Lap 143, Paul Menard, who started in the top 10, appeared to lose a tire and spun without making contact, bringing out the caution. After changing tires, he’s back racing.
