Kevin Harvick suffers big hit to title repeat bid (VIDEO)
JOLIET, Ill. -- Kevin Harvick’s bid for a second consecutive championship took a big hit in the opening race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
On a restart on Lap 135 of Sunday’s MyAFibRisk.com 400, Joey Logano got into the rear of Jimmie Johnson, pushing him forward. Johnson then slid into the side of Harvick’s car, damaging the left front fender well and leading to a tire rub on Harvick’s No. 4 Chevrolet.
Three laps later, the left front tire blew, sending Harvick spinning and backwards into the outside retaining wall, suffering heavy damage to the rear of his car.
Harvick took his car to the garage for repairs.
UPDATED: Harvick returned to the race on Lap 195 and will likely leave Chicago last in the 16-driver Chase field.
