Kyle Busch underwent successful surgery Thursday morning to remove two metal plates in his left foot and a metal rod and screws in his right leg.
He is expected to make a full recovery and will be ready for the start of the 2016 Sprint Cup season in February, Joe Gibbs Racing announced.
The hardware had been in place since surgery to stabilize a compound fracture in his right leg and a fracture of his left foot suffered in a horrific crash at Daytona International Speedway during an Xfinity Series race on Feb. 21.
Thursday’s surgeries were performed by Dr. Robert Anderson of OrthoCarolina and Dr. Stephen Sims of Carolinas Healthcare System according to JGR officials.
Despite missing 11 Sprint Cup races, as well as having the rod, plates and screws in his lower extremities, Busch was still able to return to racing and ultimately won his first career Sprint Cup championship.
Busch’s wife, Samantha, posted the following tweet shortly after the surgeries were completed.
