Logano, Hamlin haven’t forgotten Homestead

CHICAGO – While this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup has Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin looking forward, the way they finished last season’s Chase at Homestead lingers.

Hamlin finished eighth in the race to wind up third in the final Chase standings. A late pit road error left Logano with a 16th-place finish in the race and fourth in the season standings.

“I guess I would be lying to say it doesn’t (still linger), but it doesn’t consume me,” Logano said during Thursday’s Chase Media Day.

“Of course you think about it, but I try to look at the silver lining and take the positives out of that weekend. Look at the great things we did that year. It was a real coming out season for us. We did a great job, and so far this season we are even better than what we were last year. There is no reason why I don’t feel we can get to that spot again. As we have seen in the Chase last year and years before, but especially with the new format, anything can happen.”

Hamlin acknowledges how he finished at Homestead but has a different perspective.

“We overachieved so much to get to that final four by being consistent, getting top-fives,” Hamlin said. “I knew if we could get to the final eight last year then we were going to go to Homestead with a chance.

“Luckily for me, the tracks play out the way they do. It doesn’t linger on ... knowing that we overachieved getting to that point. So anything we did from that point on was a bonus.”
