NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France talked with Krista Voda of NASCAR America Thursday during the Chase for the Sprint Cup Media Day in Chicago. France addressed the current youth movement in NASCAR, his nephew Ben Kennedy’s recent win the Camping World Truck Series and more.
He also discussed the new post-race inspection guidelines regarding loose lugnuts and laser inspection that were announced on Wednesday, which include punishments for “encumbered” finishes that would not count toward qualification for or advancement in the Chase.
“We’re all about deterring things. Teams are going to push the limits,” France said. “That’s a given. All we want to do is balance and make sure if they cross the line, we balance it out with an appropriate penalty. It’s no more than that, it’s no less than that.”
Afterward, the NASCAR America crew discussed the rules that were announced.
