Brennan Poole parked, ordered to NASCAR hauler after second crash with JJ Yeley at Iowa

A typical Xfinity Series race turned atypical in Sunday’s 3M 250 at Iowa Speedway.

JJ Yeley and Brennan Poole made contact with each other early in the race (Lap 11, with caution lasting through Lap 15). Poole suffered significant damage and took his car to the pits for damage repair.

Then, more than 100 laps later on Lap 153, Poole made his second contact of the race with Yeley in what appeared to be possible retaliation.

NASCAR officials promptly ordered Poole parked, and he took his wrecked car to the garage area.

Once he climbed from his race car, Poole was then summoned to the NASCAR Xfinity Series hauler for a meeting with NASCAR officials.

Here’s what Yeley told Fox Sports 1 afterward:

“It’s just retaliation. Running around there about lap 15 and I got loose off of (turn) 2 and tried to tuck back in behind him and a couple of other cars and just barely clipped him and spun him into the wall. Obviously, it was unintentional. There wasn’t even hardly any damage to my left front or his right rear.

“They got the car fixed. It was clear to me he was going to try to wreck me on the restart. He was a number of laps down and didn’t fall back. He was chasing me pretty hard. I got real tight off of Turn 2 and gave him enough run. He turned me into the back straight fence.

“It’s just disappointing. We were a lead lap car. This is a small team here at JGL and we don’t have a lot of cars. For a guy like that to do that as a rookie to just go out there and do that thing it just sucks. The shoe will be on the other foot before too long.’'

Poole saw things differently.

“He just deliberately crashed me like five laps into the race,” Poole said of Yeley. “There’s 245 laps left. There’s no sense in that. It costs us a lot of money.

"(Sponsor) DC Solar is putting everything on the line to build a brand. I’m trying to make myself known in this sport so I can stay here and one of my heroes just deliberately crashed me five laps into the race. It just doesn’t make sense.

“I feel like it’s pretty common sense to know that you’ve got 245 to go, like what are you doing? We fixed the car and I got back to him and we just got into it. Just part of racing. I hate that it happened between me and JJ but that’s just how it goes sometimes.’'
