Wreck collects 12 cars with 10 laps left in Firecracker 250
At least 12 cars crashed in the Subway Firecracker 250 as the field crossed the finish line with 10 laps remaining.
The wreck, which caused a red flag, included the cars of Chris Buescher, Ty Dillon, Darrel Wallace Jr., Regan Smith, Black Koch, Ryan Reed, pole-sitter Daniel Suarez, John Wes Townley, Brennan Poole, Joey Gase, Brennan Gaughan and Aric Almirola.
The crash started when Reed, who won the season opener at Daytona in February, seemed to lost the handle on his car with Dillon on his bumper.
“I just saw some smoke and some sparks and some cars got turned into the wall,” Almirola told NBCSN. “I went left and thought I was going to miss it and it actually cleared up for me. Then some cars shot back in front of me and I think I ran into the 6 (Darrell Wallace Jr.).
The right front of Poole’s No. 42 Chevrolet slammed the outside wall after apparently hitting the road-course rumble strips adjacent to an area in Turn 1 where the grass recently was paved.
On his radio, Poole said “I hit the rumble strips, and I was gone, man. I was in the air, I had no traction. The car turned to the right and I was gone.”
