The Pelicans got their first win of the season on Tuesday night, beating the Mavericks 120-105, but the news wasn’t all good: Anthony Davis sat out the entire second half with a bruised right hip. Now,’s J.A. Adande reports that Davis is day-to-day and will undergo further tests:

Team officials said X-rays on the All-Star forward’s hip were negative, but they were holding him out as a precaution. Davis helped the Pelicans build an 18-point halftime lead that never dipped below 14 points en route to the team’s first win of the season.

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said Davis would undergo further testing to determine the exact nature of the injury.

“I just know he had some problems,” Gentry said. “I don’t know if it’s a groin or a hamstring. We’ll have to wait and see. Nothing surprises us here.”

Gentry said he does not yet know Davis’ status for Wednesday’s game against theAtlanta Hawks. However, an NBA source told the early indications are the injury is not too serious.

It’s good news that they don’t believe the injury to be serious, and a bruised hip is pretty low on the list of things to be worried about. But with all of the Pelicans’ other injuries, the last thing they need is to add their franchise player to that list. New Orleans’ next game is tonight against the Hawks; Davis’ status has yet to be determined.
