Doc Rivers still wants time away from coaching. Question is when?
Doc Rivers almost left the Celtics last summer. To spend time with his family, his son the elite hoop recruit and his daughter a college volleyball player. Maybe see his wife some more. Be a normal dad (whatever that is).
He came back to the Celtics for another run at a ring. But he still thinks about needing some time away from the coaching grind, as he told CSN New England.
The question is when?
Boston is going to have its core together for one more season after this one — Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo. They are going to make one more run at it. They want Rivers back.
But Rivers son Austin will be a freshman at Duke (and well could be a one-and-done if the draft rules do not change with the new CBA). There just are not a lot of chances to step away and be there for your son during times like that.
A prolonged lockout could make it easier to do a little of both for Rivers, but either way he has some big, heavy choices ahead of him.
