Dwight Howard has bone marrow injection in knee, to be re-evaluated in four weeks

Dwight Howard missed eleven games for the Rockets earlier this season due to injury, but that appeared to have been resolved in mid-December.

Howard returned for a 22-game stretch, but has now missed his team’s last four games due to a knee injury that is potentially more serious.

It was reported that the ailment could cause Howard to miss extended time, and after the latest announcement from the team, it looks like that will indeed be the case.

From the official release:

This morning Dr. Walt Lowe of the Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute conducted a bone marrow aspirate injection on Rockets center Dwight Howard’s right knee. Howard will begin rehabilitation immediately and will be re-evaluated in approximately four weeks.

From Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:

With Rockets saying Howard won’t be reevaluated for 4 weeks, he’d be out minimum of 13 more games. Begins rehab almost immediately, though.

That’s obviously a very long time in a crowded Western Conference, though it’s worth noting that thanks in large part to the offensive brilliance of James Harden, the Rockets are 11-5 with Howard out of the lineup to this point in the season.
