Former first-rounder Dario Saric won’t play for 76ers next season

Before Dario Saric was drafted No. 12 overall last year, the plan was for him to remain overseas two more seasons.

Then, after the 76ers acquired him in a draft-night trade, he mentioned jumping to the NBA after only one season.

There was even talk of Saric joining Philadelphia last season.

In the end, it seems Saric will stick to that original two-year plan.

Chad Ford of ESPN:

I doubt the 76ers mind. In fact, they probably prefer this.

Saric can continue developing on Anadolu Efes’ dime, giving Philadelphia an extra roster spot and more cap room. More importantly, this delays Saric starting his four-year rookie-scale contract.

The 76ers aren’t ready to start winning, anyway. This way, they’ll get more years of Saric on a cheap deal when it actually matters he’s stateside.

And that should happen soon enough.
