George Karl sticking around another year

The Denver Nuggets, right now, are as good a team as the franchise has ever had. Their championship window is open, at least a crack.

Now is not when you change coaches. But George Karl’s contract was up at the end of the year, and he was getting asked about it. So, today he and owner Stan Kroenke and Karl reached a one year extension at $4.5 million.

“I think it’s important to the team,” Karl said Friday news conference that was supposed to be about the All-Star Game Karl is coaching. “I don’t want to be a distraction. Stan (Kroenke) and I got together. With the situation with the world of basketball right now, I think it’s a good thing for me and a good thing for the Nuggets to do just one year and figure it out later, rather than getting into an argument and anger and frustration and pointing fingers and the things that could happen. It’s a good solution.”
