Jeremy Lin signs offer sheet with Rockets, Knicks will match
We all know how the movie is going to end — Jeremy Lin will be the starting point guard for the Knicks when next season tips off. The outcome has all the suspense of the old Batman television series endings.
But the game must still play out. Friday the Rockets got Lin to sign an offer sheet, one that is larger than anticipated, tweets Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:
It doesn’t matter, the Knicks will match. Not so much because of basketball reasons — Lin is not worth near $14.9 mil on the court — but because of his marketing value to the franchise. He brings in sponsors and sells seats, and the Knicks are still a business.
The Knicks may take all three days they are allowed to match the Lin offer, however.
After that, the Rockets will submit the Omer Asik offer sheet, and it will be more interesting to see if the Bulls match. That is still up in the air.
