Kobe Bryant out for Lakers last two games

An 8 for 23 afternoon will do this to you.

After he returned for one game Sunday, the Lakers announced today that Kobe Bryant will sit out the Lakers final two regular season games. Those are both meaningless in the West -- the Lakers have locked up home court until the Finals -- and winnable without Kobe, against the Kings and Clippers. The Lakers are still fighting for home court should they meet Orlando in the Finals, but that has not seemed to motivate Phil Jackson’s roster moves.

Kobe will return next Sunday, when the Lakers are expected to open their title defense. Opponent still TBD.

The official reason given is to rest Kobe’s avulsion fracture on his right index finger. But some more rest for his knees an legs heading into the playoffs probably isn’t the worst thing for the Lakers, either.
