As his brother Pau dominated, Marc Gasol sat out this summer’s EuroBasket tournament. The reason was obvious: he was a free agent and wanted to make sure he came into this season healthy and rested after re-signing with the Grizzlies on a five-year max deal. But that doesn’t mean his days playing for the Spanish national team are over. On the heels of Pau committing to play in Rio next summer, Marc also says he wants to play, in a Spanish interview translated by Sportando:

“If I am healthy, I would love to play the Olympic Games. And I can assure that I would have played also the Olympic Qualifying Tournament next summer” Gasol said, as reported by Gigantes.

As usual, a Spanish team that includes the Gasol brothers, Ricky Rubio and Serge Ibaka is the biggest threat to Team USA’s chances at winning the gold. This is almost certainly going to be Pau’s final tournament with the national team (he’ll be 36), so hopefully everybody is healthy for one last run.
