When Barack Obama turned 50 in 2011, former adviser David Axelrod wanted to get the president something special.

Knowing Obama is a Chicagoan and huge basketball fan, Axelrod obtained a poster of Michael Jordan.

Axelrod, via Marin Cogan of New York Magazine (hat tip:
James Dator of SB Nation):

I sent it to Jordan to have him sign it for me.” In black Sharpie, Jordan scrawled, “To Barrack: you still owe me dinner. Wishing you well, Michael Jordan.”

“I gave it to the president, and he said, ‘I can’t put this up, he misspelled my name!’ So I said, ‘Fine, I’ll take it.’ ”

Perhaps to make up for his snafu, Jordan fundraised for Obama in 2012.

Their relationship has been a little more combustible lately.
