Former Hawks point guard Mookie Blaylock was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide after his role in a May car crash. Initially put on life support, Blaylock improved, and now he’s out of the hospital and in jail.

Marcus K. Garner of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Former NBA player Mookie Blaylock, using a walker, turned himself in Monday to the Jonesboro Police Department to face charges in a fatal head-on collision.

This sad saga will play out in a court of law, but we’re seeing early signs of how both sides will present their argument.

Garner has details the state will undoubtedly use:

If and when Blaylock makes bail, he has a warrant for his arrest in Spalding County, where he lives and failed to appear in court on a March charge of driving under the influence.

Garner also reports how Blaylock’s lawyer is presenting the situation:

“He had a blackout and what caused it, whether it be from his NBA career or something else, we’re trying to get to the bottom of it,” Don Samuel, a high-profile attorney, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Blaylock will appear in court Tuesday to determine what his bond will be.
