The NBA’s most prominent Washington Redskins fan, D.C. native Kevin Durant, has sat out the debate on the team’s name.

Phil Jackson isn’t afraid to make his thoughts known.

The Knicks president stands against Redskins owner Dan Snyder and with those protesting the team’s name.

Jackson has used lessons taken from Native American culture throughout his career, and he’s usually comfortable sharing his views publicly. His sensitivity to and outspokenness on this topic isn’t a surprise.

He’s also right. The name is a slur, and it shouldn’t be tolerated.

Hopefully, Jackson’s platform helps call attention to just how inappropriate the nickname is.
