Rajon Rondo: DeMarcus Cousins never respected a veteran teammate before me

DeMarcus Cousins clearly appreciates having Rajon Rondo on the Kings.

Just how much?

Rondo, via Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports:

“Cousins has never played with a vet that he respected,” Rondo told Yahoo Sports. “I think I’ve got his attention a little bit. I think he respects what I say.

“He will do his own thing. I’m not trying to be his daddy. But I want to be his big brother like K.G. was to me, showing me the ropes and helping me along the way. Everything that I’m telling him, K.G. told me. Experience is everything. If someone has it and is willing to share it, I was always trying to soak in as much knowledge as possible.”

Apparently the following 29 players – who played with Cousins before this season and had more experience than him at the time – didn’t cut it:

  • Aaron Brooks
  • Omri Casspi
  • Darren Collison
  • Samuel Dalembert
  • Toney Douglas
  • Reggie Evans
  • Tyreke Evans
  • Francisco Garcia
  • Rudy Gay
  • Aaron Gray
  • Donte Greene
  • Chuck Hayes
  • Luther Head
  • J.J. Hickson
  • Ryan Hollins
  • Darnell Jackson
  • James Johnson
  • Carl Landry
  • Luc Mbah a Moute
  • Andre Miller
  • Travis Outlaw
  • John Salmons
  • Ramon Sessions
  • Jermaine Taylor
  • Jason Thompson
  • Marcus Thornton
  • Beno Udrih
  • Terrence Williams
  • Antoine Wright

Rondo, like many people who’ve achieved significant success, might be just a bit self-centered. He’s playing well, and Cousins clearly thinks highly of him. It’s completely understandable Rondo feels good about his impact on Cousins.

I just wonder what the veterans who beat Rondo to Sacramento and are still with the Kings – Collison, Casspi and Gay – feel about hearing that.
