The Kings will reportedly interview Mike Woodson.

First, a few other coaching candidates.

Marc Stein of ESPN:

This is a pretty underwhelming list, but it’s not surprising considering the best available coaches are avoiding Sacramento.

The Kings either have a type or their first leaked candidates just happen to share major similarities. Woodson (Hawks and Knicks), Jackson (Warriors), Del Negro (Bulls and Clippers) and Mitchell (Raptors and Timberwolves) all have prior head-coaching experience, but all their previous tenures ended unsatisfyingly.

Jackson deserves more credit for helping the Warriors improve their defense, but he seemed toxic within the organization, and Golden State obviously took off after firing him. Del Negro’s play-calling caused plenty of head-scratchers, though he won at a decent clip. Mitchell is old-school in every sense, not just the good ways.

No matter whom the Kings hire, the next coach must connect with DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins’ natural state seems to be clashing with his coach, so it’ll be on the next one to convince Cousins buying in will improve his situation. But why would Cousins trust any of these guys with his basketball future? Perhaps, they can persuade him, but their their résumés probably put them behind behind the eight ball.
