Kevin Durant didn’t play in Madison Square Garden last night.

Will he make up for that several times over?

Durant, who will become an unrestricted free agent in 2016, could play 41 games per season in New York.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

The Knicks are in play.

“No question about it,” says a person close to Durant. “Kevin loves Carmelo (Anthony). It could work in New York. But never rule out the Thunder.”

I believe this is true. I also believe the Thunder, Wizards, Lakers, Raptors and several other teams are in play.

Durant surely has many friends around the league, including Carmelo Anthony. He can’t play with all them.

The Knicks hired a head coach Durant likes and Durant’s old high school assistant coach. They’ll have plenty of cap room this summer, and if they don’t burn it all, next summer. But Phil Jackson needs to put together a better roster before we can take them seriously as a contender for Durant.

At this point, Oklahoma City must be viewed as the odds-on favorite to keep Durant. He’s happy there, which doesn’t preclude him from leaving, but certainly makes it less likely he does.
