Report: Monty Williams not expected to coach Thunder next season, will coach Team USA

Monty Williams

Williams’ wife, Ingrid Williams, is second from right. Oklahoma City police say Ingrid Williams died Wednesday evening, Feb. 10, 2016, at a hospital. Capt. Paco Valderrama says the 44-year-old’s SUV was struck Tuesday night just outside downtown Oklahoma City when an oncoming car crossed the center line. Monty Williams stepped away from the Thunder following the tragic death of his wife in a car crash.

Unfortunately, it seems the Oklahoma City assistant won’t return to the team next season, either.

Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman:

Moving into next year, Williams is not expected to return to the Thunder coaching staff, The Oklahoman has learned.
This summer, Williams will help out with Team USA as they prepare and play in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

Williams faces the enormous task of raising their five children. That comes first, but hopefully Williams – who has shown so much strength – also finds professional fulfillment. The Olympics, a lesser responsibility, could provide that.
