Report: NBA implementing central replay center for next season
The NBA has been designing a centralized replay system, but it hadn’t been known when the NHL-style setup would go into effect.
Ira Winderman of the SunSentinel:
Just been informed the NBA WILL have a centralized replay center for next season's games. So these playoffs last games with on-site review.— Ira Winderman (@IraHeatBeat) May 18, 2014
I’m all for getting calls correct, but the current system is ridiculously inefficient.
Officials waste so much time just going to the scorers’ table and waiting for the television to come out. Then, they huddle around a small screen in a noisy arena to focus on a call.
The system takes too long, and it too often produces bad calls.
A centralized system would drastically reduce setup time, and the reviewers could examine plays on bigger screens with more clarity. There might be kinks in the short term, but this will create a better viewing experience in the long run.
