The Nets, Thunder and Hornets were discussing a three-way trade with this framework:

  • Nets receive: Lance Stephenson (from Hornets)
  • Thunder receive: Brook Lopez (from Nets)
  • Hornets receive: Jeremy Lamb (from Thunder), Jarrett Jack (from Nets)

That deal wouldn’t come close to meeting salary-cap requirements, meaning deeper negotiations were required.

Apparently, that was too much.

Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer:

Chris Broussard of ESPN:

This specific trade might be dead for now, but don’t be surprised if the principles involved seek similar deals.

The Hornets still probably want to rid themselves of Stephenson.

The Nets still probably want to trim salary in advance of a sale, and Lopez – who doesn’t fit with the younger and cheaper Mason Plumlee – is probably a good place to start.

The Thunder still probably want to remain aggressive in adding talent.
