Report: Pacers to set sights on Brandon Roy, O.J. Mayo, and Jamal Crawford in free agency
The Pacers want a wing that can shoot. And when you say “NBA wings that shoot,” pretty much three of the first names I think of are Brandon Roy, O.J. Mayo, and Jamal Crawford.
Granted, it would have to be 2009 when you ask me, but still, those names are there.
The Indianapolis Star reports:
The Pacers are obviously looking to add some offensive firepower. They’re in the rare position of having too many playmakers and not enough guys to make shots. If Roy does return from retirement, a spot-up shooter is the best role for him, and the Pacers have the defensive personnel to cover for his limitations. Mayo has long been coveted by the Pacers, having tried to trade for the Memphis combo guard twice. And Crawford is a veteran who can be the difference in a playoff game, as the Hawks found out in 2011.
It’s a pretty good set of targets for the Pacers.
For Roy, does fitting in with a playoff team that doesn’t need him to log heavy minutes make the most sense? He’s going to have options.
