Report: Stu Jackson to interview for Pistons GM position
Stan Van Gundy will be making the calls in Detroit. No roster moves are happening without his stamp of approval, he has the power.
But he needs somebody to handle the day-to-day of being a GM (for example, take the calls from frustrated agents so Van Gundy doesn’t have to).Stu Jackson, the NBA’s former executive vice president of basketball operations (the guy who handed out the fine), may be that guy. He will interview for the job, reports Chris Haynes at CSNNW.com.
Jackson, 58, is scheduled to have his interview with Stan Van Gundy, the team’s newest head coach and president of basketball operations, shortly after the Memorial Day Weekend.
Those plugged in on the Detroit situation also believe Van Gundy will reach out to the Spurs assistant General Manager Scott Layden, if he hasn’t already done so. Otis Smith is still considered the favorite to land the Detroit role, we’re told.
In case you forgot, Jackson has a good basketball resume, including as coach of the New York Knicks and then Vancouver Grizzlies. He can handle the business side, deal with contracts and the cap, plus have some input on players.
Smith was considered the frontrunner here but SVG is wisely taking his time and interviewing multiple people. He’s looking for the right fit.
That might mean Stu Jackson is back in the NBA.
