Tyrone Corbin will take over for Michael Malone, whom the Kings – ridiculouslyfired last night.

But Corbin doesn’t seem likely to hold the top job beyond of this season.

One of the few rational ways the Kings could have justified firing Malone was having a better coach lined up to succeed him. It doesn’t appear that’s the case.

Between these two, Karl is clearly the better choice. Really, Del Negro shouldn’t even be a choice. If Sacramento can’t get Karl, there are many better options than the former Clippers and Bulls coach.

But Karl is intriguing. He worked with Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro when D’Alessandro was in Denver’s front office, so maybe that relationship helps pull the 63-year-old Karl back to the sideline – not that it would necessarily take much urging.

Karl would install the type of up-tempo offense Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé wants, and the coach is a proven winner. Getting him might not justify firing Malone, but it would put Sacramento back on a good track.

Would Karl take the job? How Malone was treated should give him trepidation, but perhaps his relationship with D’Alessandro would put any fears to rest. Whether or not he’s actually interested, Karl’s ears sure are ringing:
