Since Friday afternoon, reaction has been pouring in from all corners of the NBA to the Cavs’ decision to fire head coach David Blatt. From within the coaching ranks, the reaction has mostly been puzzled, given Blatt’s winning record and Finals appearance in his first season in Cleveland. NBA Coaches Association president Rick Carlisle had some particularly strong words after the Blatt firing.

From Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News:

“He’s done some phenomenal things adjusting to this league. I’m embarrassed for our league that something like this could happen. It’s just bizarre. Now is Tyron Lue going to coach the All-Star Game? It just leaves you with a bit of an empty feeling. Because Blatt’s a great guy and he did a great job there.

Carlisle had a much longer reaction, and the whole thing is worth reading. NBA coaches are a famously close-knit group that almost invariable has each other’s backs in the press, so it’s no surprise that Carlisle came out so strongly in Blatt’s defense.
