Sherron Collins latest in growing trend of D-League assignments
Sherron Collins is about to find out what cold really is.
The Charlotte Bobcats have decided that their first-round pick out of Kansas — the All-American — needs some more seasoning and minutes so he is off the well-named Maine Red Claws of the D-League, as reported by Scott Schroeder of FanHouse. I love Maine, fantastic state, great lobster pounds. I only go in the summer. For good reason.
The move seems a wise one, to get Collins some burn and let him improve rather than languish on the bench of a team where the coach trusts rookies about as much as guys wearing trench coats at parks.
What is interesting is Collins becomes the 16th guy under NBA contract to be assigned to the D-League this season by Schroeder’s count. Some of it for injury rehab, some young players who need some burn. It is a growing trend as teams seem to be figuring out how to really make having a real minor league work for them.
