The Spurs have been without Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard since December 16, when he suffered a torn ligament in his right hand. San Antonio’s season has been a mixed bag: they’re 24-16, currently the seventh seed in the Western Conference. Now, it looks like they’re getting Leonard back for Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers:

Following @Monroe_SA: Based on the progress in workouts on last road trip, be looking for Kawhi Leonard to be cleared to play tomorrow.

There’s still a shootaround for Leonard to get through, but barring setback things appear trending in that direction.

This is great news for the Spurs. Leonard does so much for the Spurs at both ends of the floor that it’s been hard to get a handle on who they are as a team without him. As with anything surrounding the Spurs, it’s hard to take what they do in the regular season seriously because of their tendency to flip a switch when the playoffs start, but getting Leonard back should be a huge help.
