Stoudemire going free agent this summer. Probably.

Economy, shmakonomy. Amare Stoudemire thinks this is the summer for him to test the free agent market. Probably. No, he’s going to do it. Maybe.

That’s what he told -- he’s definitely going to do it. Most likely. We’ll see.

Stoudemire cautioned that no final decision has been made. But, speaking before the Suns played the Warriors at Oracle Arena, he told that “It’s definitely a great time. The timing is perfect as far as being a free agent. But it doesn’t determine whether I stay or not.”

See, doesn’t that clear everything up?

Stoudemire has been consistently inconsistent in hints of what his future holds. No doubt he has been as anybody in the league since the All-Star break, which helps his stock. He is due $17.5 million next year but it’s his player’s option. There’s the risk that he goes free agent only to have to take a pay cut this season, but he almost certainly would get a multi-year deal so he doesn’t have to be a free agent in the summer of CBA negotiations and a potential lockout. That could be nice security, but how much would it

Still, it sounds like Amare’s going to opt out. Unless his agent can swing a trade-and-extend with somewhere like Miami. Which his agent is definitely going to explore. Probably.

Eh, who knows?
