It is what the Spurs do in the regular season that other teams cannot match — execution.

With the game on the line they just try to isolate their best player one-on-one, they ran a play.

Don’t be distracted by the ball out top, which goes from Tony Parker to Tim Duncan to Kawhi Leonard, instead watch what happens on the baseline. Green starts out near the left corner, runs to the right block to set a back-pick for Stephen Jackson, and by this point Duncan has slid down to the right block and sets another screen for Green. Green popped free out off that and Kobe hesitated for a second, Green got to the three-point line and made an in rhythm catch-and-shoot three for the win.

It’s a great play design, as we discussed. But the key is execution, just not a lot of teams would pull it off that cleanly, especially not in the eighth game of a young season.
