1976 Montreal gold medal

You might not remember Walter Davis, but he was a stud player. He was a six time All-Star, 1978 Rookie of the Year, he averated 18.9 points per game over the course of his career, with a shooting percentage of 51.1. He to this day is the Suns all-time leading scorer.

And he won a gold medal in Montreal in 1976 as part of Team USA basketball, a team led by Phil Ford and Adrian Dantley.

And that medal is something you can buy at acution, something first reported at Eye on Basketball.

Each year around the Hall of Fame introductions (those are coming in a couple weeks) hosts an auction of impressive NBA memorabilia. This year there are Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson game-worn jerseys among other items.

But Davis’ 1976 gold medal is the highlight. The current bid is $12,000, if you’ve got that laying around.

Davis battled some drug problems at a point in his 15-year career but the former North Carolina star was reportedly serving as a community ambassador for the Nuggets last year.
