Warriors, Curry table extension talks. But he’s still optimistic.

The world needs optimists.

Stephen Curry and his agent are optimists. They believe that even though the Warriors and Curry have tabled talks of a contract extension, once team officials seem him playing in the preseason things will come off the table and a deal will get done.

That’s what they told Matt Steinmetz of

“I’m very optimistic about getting a deal done,” said Lance Young, Curry’s representative. “I think we can get something done by the 31st (Oct. 31, the deadline for Curry to sign a deal).”

Any hope they have rests on Curry looking spectacular in camp and preseason. He is coming of a season and a half of ankle issues and surgeries, the Warriors want to see him play before they commit.

And that may not just be the preseason the Warriors want to see. If the two sides do not reach a deal on or before Oct. 31 then Curry will become a restricted free agent next summer (meaning the Warriors could match any deal). That comes with a risk because if he is healthy and has a huge season his price will certainly go up.

But after the last couple years, the Warriors may just want to let the market set the price for Curry.
