Jaguars special teams coordinator Brian Schneider is stepping away from the team for personal reasons.
It’s the second time in two years Schneider has taken time off from coaching. He missed most of the 2020 season with Seattle due to personal reasons. Assistant special teams coach Carlos Polk is expected to take on an expanded role and could replace Schneider if he doesn’t return.

Chargers placed linebacker Carlos Polk on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
Polk was San Diego’s best special teams player a year ago.

Chargers LB Carlos Polk was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, ending his season.
The special teamer injured his shoulder while making a tackle against Jacksonville. Rookie Jyles Tucker was promoted to take his roster spot.
  • CAR Defensive Lineman #55
Jyles Tucker may be the leading candidate to start at strong outside linebacker for San Diego if Shawne Merriman misses the year.
It’d be Tucker, Carlos Polk, or Marques Harris. Tucker showed potential in Week 17 last year, racking up three sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery he returned for a touchdown. Of course, he did it against Oakland, so it might not count. But he’s someone to monitor in big-play IDP leagues.
  • DEN Running Back
Chargers waived RB Marcus B. Thomas, G Erik Robertson, LB Carlos Polk, OT Tony Pape, LB Terna Nande, OT Tyler Luellen, WR Mark Jones, and OL Brandyn Dombrowski.
Thomas was effective in the preseason and may latch on elsewhere. If not, he could go to the practice squad. Polk became expendable with Jyles Tucker’s emergence. Darren Sproles will likely return punts with Jones gone.

Cowboys signed OLB Carlos Polk, formerly of the Chargers.
Polk can rush the passer some, but will mostly play special teams.
