Quincy Williams was not the only Jets linebacker to land on injured reserve Tuesday.
The Jets announced that Marcelino McCrary-Ball is also going on the list. McCrary-Ball hurt his hamstring in Sunday’s loss to the Buccaneers and will now miss at least four games.
McCrary-Ball is one of the team’s captains due to his work on special teams. He has 17 tackles on 77 defensive snaps and 75 special teams snaps this season.
The Jets confirmed that they have signed linebacker Mark Robinson off of the Patriots’ practice squad. They did not fill the other open spot, but that will likely go to cornerback Jarvis Brownlee once their trade with the Titans is official.
They rounded out the day’s moves by signing linebacker Ben Niemann to the practice squad and releasing offensive lineman Liam Fornadel from that roster.
The Titans and Jets have reportedly agreed on a trade.
Per multiple reports, cornerback Jarvis Brownlee will go from Tennessee to the Jets in the deal. The Titans will also send 2026 seventh-round pick to the AFC East club while the Jets’ 2026 sixth-rounder will go back in return.
Brownlee was a 2024 fifth-round pick and he’s started 16 of the 19 games he’s played since entering the NFL. He had 75 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery as a rookie, and had 17 tackles in the first two games of this season. Brownlee did not play in Tennessee’s Week 3 loss to the Colts.
The Jets have Sauce Gardner, Brandon Stephens, Michael Carter, Azareye’h Thomas, and Qwantezz Stiggers as their other cornerbacks.
Jets linebacker Quincy Williams left Sunday’s loss to the Buccaneers with a shoulder injury and he’s set to miss at least four games as a result.
Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports that Williams will be placed on injured reserve. The Jets will be in Miami next Monday night and they also have games against the Cowboys, Broncos, and Panthers before Williams will be eligible to return.
It’s not known if Williams will be back after those four games, but the injury is reportedly not considered to be a season-ending one. The Jets are signing linebacker Mark Robinson off the Patriots’ practice squad to fill out the linebacker group while Williams is out.
Williams had 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks in the first three weeks of the season. He has been a fixture in the Jets defense for the last four seasons and was a first-team All-Pro in 2023.
The Jets are plucking a linebacker away from one of their divisional rivals.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Jets are signing linebacker Mark Robinson to their 53-man roster. Robinson spent the first three weeks of the season on New England’s practice squad.
Robinson was elevated by the Patriots for each of their first three games this season. He had three tackles on 37 special teams snaps.
Robinson was a 2022 seventh-round pick of the Steelers and he appeared in 38 regular season games for the team, including all 34 they played the last two years. He started four times and had 45 tackles, a sack, and three forced fumbles for Pittsburgh.
The Jets needed some depth at linebacker because they could be without Quincy Williams this week. He left Sunday’s loss to the Buccaneers with a shoulder injury.
Jets quarterback Justin Fields missed Week 3’s loss to the Buccaneers because of a concussion and it’s unclear if he’ll be back for their Week 4 game against the Dolphins.
Head coach Aaron Glenn said at a Monday press conference that he didn’t have updated information on where Fields is in terms of clearing the concussion protocol and that information will be necessary to figuring out whether Tyrod Taylor will be making another start this week.
“Justin came in as our starter and he’s been our starter, so listen Tyrod was the back up,” Glenn said, via a transcript from the team. “So, I want to make sure I know exactly where Justin is at. I don’t want to say anything until I know that Justin is cleared, so once Justin is cleared I will let you know exactly where we’re going.”
Fields had a strong game in the season-opening loss to the Steelers, but struggled against the Bills before getting hurt in Week 2. Taylor was 26-of-36 for 197 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against the Bucs. He also lost a fumble on a sack in the 29-27 loss.
