49ers sign Nick Bellore

New York Jets v Tennessee Titans

Al Pereira

The 49ers have been looking for linebacker help since Patrick Willis and Chris Borland retired last month and they signed their second player at the position in the last few days on Friday.

The player they signed is a better bet to help them on special teams than at linebacker, however. The 49ers announced that they have signed former Jet Nick Bellore to a two-year deal.

Bellore has played in every game with the Jets over the last four seasons and recorded 61 tackles while playing only a few snaps on defense each season. The majority of the tackles have come while covering kicks, which should continue to be Bellore’s meal ticket in the NFL even with the Niners rejiggering their linebacking corps.

Bellore is the second big addition to the 49ers special teams this offseason to come from the Jets. Thomas McGaughey will be the team’s special teams coordinator in 2015 after holding the same job with the Jets last season.
