When training camp opened last year, Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green faced a lot of questions about whether he’d sign an extension before the start of the regular season.
Green didn’t get a contract until just before the start of the regular season, which left him to spend time wondering about “what’s going to happen” if he got injured during camp or the preseason. Green said that didn’t stop him from playing or practicing hard, but he expects a more pleasurable experience this time around.
“Definitely my mind is at ease this year,” Green said, via ESPN.com. “I don’t have to worry about contracts or anything like that. I just go in there free, clear head, just go out there work and have fun. Training camp is fun to me. I just love getting back out there with the guys.”
Among the guys on this year’s roster are new wideouts Brandon LaFell, Tyler Boyd and Cody Core, who will join Brandon Tate, James Wright and Mario Alford as options to play with Green in the wake of the departures of Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu. Green said he’s been “more vocal” this offseason as they try to work to put the group together and spending words in that direction rather than on his contractual future seems to agree with him.
