English fans have seen plenty of ties on the soccer field over the years, but they got their first football tie on Sunday.

Fifteen extra minutes couldn’t separate the Bengals and Redskins, who head back to the states with a 27-27 tie to show for their long trip ahead of Sunday’s game. The two teams combined for 961 yards, the lead changed several times and both teams missed kicks that would have changed the outcome of the proceedings.

Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green was responsible for 121 yards and said after the game that the whole experience left him feeling empty.

“I feel blah. I feel like nothing,” Green said, via the team’s website.

The loss drops the Bengals to 3-4-1 heading into their bye week, but left tackle Andrew Whitworth said he wouldn’t feel any different about the outlook for the second half of the season if the team had won on Sunday.

I don’t think it changes anything,” Whitworth said. “The reality is the story of the season is going to be told in the back eight back games. I don’t care if we were 4-4, 3-4-1, or 3-5. Look at last year. We went 8-0 [to start], but 4-4 in the back eight. We didn’t have momentum.”

The Bengals haven’t won two straight games yet this season, so momentum has been hard to come by this year as well. That will need to change after the bye week for the Bengals to extend their string of playoff appearances to six years.
