Add “noted potter” to Chris Cooley’s resume

Veteran tight end Chris Cooley said earlier this offseason he’d like to play again next year, but only for the Redskins.

The good news is that he has something to fall back on if the football career isn’t extended.

According to Fritz Hahn of the Washington Post, Cooley is also something or an artist/historian, as he made a collection of ceramic mugs, flasks and pitchers for a new Teddy Roosevelt-themed restaurant. He is referred to in the story as a “noted potter,” which is something we’re guessing few NFL players can brag about.

We’ve long admired Cooley for his honesty and attitude. The fact he tried to negotiate a case of beer into his contract last year cemented that opinion.

But the fact he’s an accomplished ceramicist adds a level to that admiration, for reasons that can only be explained by late June.
