Terrelle Pryor has been making plays at Browns camp as he tries not only to transition from quarterback to wide receiver but to become an impact player.
Vikings guard Alex Boone, Pryor’s ex-teammate at Ohio State, apparently hasn’t been reading PFT and keeping up with Pryor’s progress.
“He’s still playing?” Boone asked -- genuinely and twice -- during a radio interview with KFAN Boone did late last week from Vikings training camp.
The hosts asked Boone who his quarterbacks were during his time at Ohio State, and Boone told them he played with Todd Boeckman and pointed out he was the left tackle for Troy Smith during Smith’s Heisman season.
“Unfortunately I had Terrelle Pryor, too,” Boone said. “I could not stand any minute with him.
“The kid was so arrogant at the time. I hated everything about him.”
Boone, who signed with the Vikings in March, is a native Clevelander but seemed to have no idea that Pryor caught on with the Browns last summer and again late last season.
Boone was honest and humorous over the entire interview. He said he nearly sank his career early on with “a lot of drinking. I’m from Cleveland. I come from an Irish family. I was very immature. Looking back, I was very, very immature and I’m glad I woke up.”
Boone credited former Ohio State and NFL offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley not only with training him early on but also talking sense into him.
“I got lazy, too. LeCharles kind of woke me up,” Boone said. “He was...one of the baddest. There was nobody meaner, tougher. That’s who I tried to embody when I got to the league.”
