We mentioned on Thursday that the Bengals’ website wasn’t buying a possible Carson Palmer trade to the Dolphins. NFL.com’s Vic Carucci also thinks this is a story that is going nowhere because “Palmer is going nowhere.”
“Bengals owner Mike Brown is entrenched in his position of refusing to give into Palmer’s trade demands. And when Brown digs in, he stays there,” Carucci writes. “Anyone who has ever dealt with him in a football or business situation will tell you as much.”
Sure, the Bengals could be swayed by a Godfather offer. But Carucci says that offer simply won’t come.
“Regardless of how desperate another team might be for a veteran quarterback -- and a bunch of them are -- giving up a first- and a third-round pick, or a second-round pick, or even a pair of seconds for Palmer is never going to happen,” he writes.
We don’t think Brown will trade Palmer before the 2011 season unless he got something like a first-round pick plus more. After all, what’s the penalty of waiting until March of 2012 to see if he could do better?
The lack of player movement before the draft hurts Palmer’s leverage and increases the chances he’ll remain a Bengal or be forced to “retire” at the age of 31.
