Anthony Gonzalez will return to “on-field work” this week

The Colts continue to employ the NFL’s version of Glasnost, providing on Tuesday of each week an injury update that they’re simply not required to provide.

The biggest news? Receiver Anthony Gonzalez “will progress his rehabilitation to on-field work.” It could mean that he’ll engage in individual drills, and it could mean that he’ll be returning to practice.

As Rosenthal pointed out earlier, Gonzalez participated in Monday’s walk-through-style practice. But such sessions aren’t very demanding; safety Bob Sanders practiced the Monday after suffering a torn biceps tendon that has shelved him for the past month.

We’ll find out more on Wednesday, when the Colts release their first practice participation report in advance of Sunday night’s game against the Redskins.

We confirmed earlier today that the Colts, who have had several injuries at the receiver position, made a waivers claim on Devin Thomas, who was released by the Redskins on Saturday. The Panthers, who also made a claim, have priority, given their 0-5 record.

The Colts also announced that linebacker Kavell Conner (foot) and safety Bob Sanders (biceps tendon) will be out this week.
