Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has drastically improved Cincinnati’s defense since arriving in 2008.
He’s expected to be pursued by the Redskins about their defensive coordinator job, but the Bengals won’t give him up without a fight. Cincinnati plans to open contract talks with Zimmer next week, according to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche.
The obvious question: Why did the Bengals wait so long?
It will be difficult to win a bidding war with the Redskins if Zimmer if open to leaving. Cincinnati’s best bet would to be to have an extended playoff run.
That would give them more time to close a deal for Zimmer, and perhaps the Redskins would get impatient waiting for him.
