Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin came up short in his bid to make the Olympics as a long jumper.

Goodwin finished a disappointing seventh place in the U.S. Olympic trials on Sunday, meaning he will be in Buffalo, not Rio, this summer.

Coming into the trials, Goodwin had the two longest jumps in the world so far this year, 8.45 meters and 8.42 meters. But in the trials the longest jump he managed was 8.25 meters.

That’s a big disappointment for Goodwin, who has acknowledged that he cares more about the long jump than he does about football. But it gives him a better shot of making the Bills this year: If he had missed training camp to go to Rio, there’s a good chance he wouldn’t have made it on the Bills’ 53-man roster. He’ll have a much better chance now that he can put all his focus on football.
