The Bills were hoping they’d get cornerback Stephon Gilmore back on the field this year, but they apparently decided not to wait.

The team announced the cornerback was going on season-ending injured reserve, and that they had signed outside linebacker/defensive end Max Valles off the Raiders practice squad.

The initial optimism after his shoulder popped out against the Texans clearly waned, as coach Rex Ryan said the day after Gilmore was injured against the Texans that “you can rule that out,” when asked about it being season-ending.

According to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, Gilmore is going to have surgery to repair a torn labrum.

But now that Gilmore’s out, Leodis McKelvin and Nickell Roby will have to take bigger roles.
