Brent Grimes interested in return to Dolphins

The Dolphins got cornerback Brent Grimes relatively cheap last offseason, signing him to a one-year, $5 million deal as he returned from an Achilles injury that scuttled his 2012 season.

The move paid off handsomely for Miami. Grimes was Miami’s best defensive back in coverage and tied for the team lead with four interceptions, a performance that earned him a Pro Bowl nod last week. Grimes is now headed into free agency in a stronger position than he did last season, but said he’d be up for sticking around if things work out with the Dolphins.

“I like it here. I like the coaches, I like the players and it’s a good team,” Grimes said, via “Obviously, we didn’t finish how we wanted to and close out the season well. But I just let my agents handle everything. If [the Dolphins] want to keep me here, they’ll see how it goes.”

The franchise tag is an option for Grimes, although he was tagged once with the Falcons so the cost of the contract would be higher than the franchise tag for cornerbacks who have not been tagged before.
