Coach Brad Childress was noncommittal about Brett Favre’s status for Week Six in his Friday post-practice press conference.
The Vikings’ quarterback is much more sure of himself. Favre told ESPN’s Ed Werder Friday that he expects to start. Favre’s started 289 straight games and played through his elbow tendinitis in Week Five.
According to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, however, “the bigger question” is whether Favre finishes the game. Childress indicated that Favre’s accuracy on practice passes was noticeably affected.
“I’ve seen a ball come out of his hands this week backward,” said the Vikings’ coach.
Favre’s accuracy woes were particularly evident on a late-game pass intended for wide receiver Percy Harvin in Week Five. Harvin was wide open after running a pass route from the slot position, and Favre’s pass sailed several feet over his head on Minnesota’s second-to-last drive.
On the next play, a severely under-thrown pass from Favre was picked off and returned for a touchdown by Jets cornerback Dwight Lowery.
