On Sunday night, Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak removed his name from consideration for head-coaching jobs. On Monday, the Broncos’ head-coaching job became available.
And now Kubiak has become available.
Per multiple reports (and to no surprise), Kubiak will interview for the job this weekend. He spent nine years as a backup quarterback behind John Elway and then, after two years at his alma mater of Texas A&M, 11 seasons as a Broncos assistant.
It won’t be a shock if Kubiak gets the job. But it will be at least a little awkward. Apart from Kubiak’s rollout-based passing game and a quarterback who lacks the mobility to pull it off, Kubiak’s Texans didn’t want Manning three years ago, when he wanted to play for the Texans.
So get ready for plenty of revisionist history in the coming days, with reports citing unnamed sources that, for example, Kubiak wanted Peyton but G.M. Rick Smith and/or owner Bob McNair didn’t.
