Browns place Solomon on IR, claim Don Jones

The Browns placed starting outside linebacker Scott Solomon in injured reserve Wednesday and claimed safety Don Jones via waivers from the Saints.

Solomon appeared in two games and totaled one tackle this year. He sustained an ankle injury in the first quarter of the season opener and returned to the lineup last week before suffering a knee injury that’s ended his season. Rookie Nate Orchard saw his most extensive action last week, and both Orchard and Barkevious Mingo will probably play more snaps with Solomon out.

Jones had played in all five games as a backup and special teams player with the Saints. He was added because the Browns played last week without starting safety Tashaun Gipson and Gipson missed practice again Wednesday due to an ankle injury. The Browns could be without Gipson and starting cornerback Joe Haden (concussion) Sunday vs. the Broncos.

The Saints waived Jones Tuesday when they signed wide receiver Joe Morgan, a move necessitated by Marques Colston’s shoulder injury.
